The SAF has a proud history supporting arts education for the students of Grand Rapids Public Schools. In 2006, we launched our “Tools for Learning. Tools for Life.” campaign, raising funds to purchase 400 new musical instruments (some of which had been held together with duct tape) for bands and orchestras.
Each year, the SAF helps make sure nearly 10,000 GRPS students have an enrichment opportunity they might not otherwise experience:
1st Grade - Grand Rapids Children's Museum
2nd Grade - Grand Rapids Civic Theatre
3rd Grade - Grand Rapids Art Museum
4th Grade - Frederik Meijer Gardens
5th Grade - Grand Rapids Symphony
6th Grade - Frederik Meijer Gardens Sculpture Park
Check out the video below to find out what GRPS student, Brysien Beer, has to say about the importance of music education in the public schools:
Student Advancement Foundation arts programs are supported in part by the MICHIGAN COUNCIL FOR ARTS AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS and the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.
