The SAF has a proud history supporting arts education for the students of Grand Rapids Public Schools. In 2006, we launched our “Tools for Learning. Tools for Life.” campaign, raising funds to purchase 400 new musical instruments (some of which had been held together with duct tape) for bands and orchestras.

Each year, the SAF helps make sure nearly 10,000 GRPS students have an enrichment opportunity they might not otherwise experience:

  • 1st Grade - Grand Rapids Children's Museum

  • 2nd Grade - Grand Rapids Civic Theatre

  • 3rd Grade - Grand Rapids Art Museum

  • 4th Grade - Frederik Meijer Gardens

  • 5th Grade - Grand Rapids Symphony

  • 6th Grade - Frederik Meijer Gardens Sculpture Park

We’re privileged that so many first-class arts organizations are right here in our community, enthusiastically providing kids with opportunities to experience music, art, live theater, sculpture and the outdoors.  In addition to partnering with community arts organizations to provide these crucial enrichment experiences, the SAF contributes more than $40,000 each year for art and music supplies for all GRPS schools.
